De pronto, lo que imaginaban como los mejores años de su vida se convierten en un infierno. Los chicos se dan cuenta de que sólo les queda una solución, contratar a un guardaespaldas. Aparece en escena Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson). Posiblemente no sea el mejor mercenario, asesino a sueldo o gorila, pero sin duda alguna es el más barato de los que contesta al anuncio que colgaron en la red. Al parecer, Drillbit es un personaje frío, peligroso y experimentado en operaciones encubiertas y artes marciales de lo más exótico. Pero también es un completo farsante. Engaña y convence al crédulo trío para que pasen por un entrenamiento demencial y, después de varios fallos garrafales, consigue inculcarles nuevas habilidades y la confianza en sí mismos que necesitaban. Pero a la hora de la verdad, Drillbit no está a la altura de Filkins y su reinado del terror. A Ryan, Wade y Emmit sólo les queda transformar al embaucador en el salvador que había prometido ser.
